The Bir (generally set of few small villages collectively known as The Greater Bir or Bir Khas), is renowned for meditation, spiritual studies and ecotourism. The Billing (the take-off site) is situated on the top of the hill in The Greater region and is 14 KM away from the main Bir village. Bir Billing is surrounded by tea gardens and pine forests, with lots of small and big water streams along the snow cover Dhauladhar mountains in the Kangra Distt. of Himachal Pradesh and is the most calm and exciting at the same time.
Bir Billing is the most favoured destination for the Paragliding lovers in Himachal Pradesh and located at the halfway of Manali Dharamshala Road. The site of Paragliding in Bir Billing which is Baijnath is considered the best among the worlds sites for paragliding. Billing (the take-off site) is approx 2400M from the sea level and located in the greater Bir region and is about 14 kms from Bir. A road which is made by cutting the edges of mountains lead to Billing from the Bir village. This road was first constructed in 1962. The Paragliding landing site is located to the western edge of Tibetan Colony. Many trekking routes (especially for Bara Bhangal, and Chamba) also pass through Bir Billing.
In 1984 Billing first came into the limelight when an international Hang Gliding rally was organized here. Now an International Paragliding competition is held annually at Bir Billing. Paragliding and Hang-gliding enthusiasts can fly up to Chamba from Billing. Now-a-days Tandem Paragliding become quite famous here and lots of tourist worldwide come here to enjoy the Paragliding adventure in Himachal.
